Juan Evangelista (también Juan el Teólogo, Juan el Divino o Hijo del Trono[1] (griego antiguo: Εὐαγγελιστής Ἰωάννης) es el presunto autor del Evangelio de Juan, y, seguramente, de otros escritos como los llamados Escritos Joánicos de Eu el Apocalipsis.

John the Evangelist (also John the Theologian, John the Divine or Son of Thunder[1] (Ancient Greek: Εὐαγγελιστής Ἰωάννης) is the presumed author of the Gospel of John, and, certainly, of other writings such as the so-called Johannine Writings of the New Testament: the three Epistles of John and, according to some, of the Revelation.

This type of print was very common in books of saints' lives, devotional books, or missals printed in France and the rest of Western Europe between the 17th and 18th centuries.

La Santa Cena es la última comida que Jesús compartió con sus apóstoles antes de ser crucificado, la última cena es una de las representaciones bíblicas mas representadas en la historia del arte, siendo la escena mas común la representación de Jesús en el centro bendiciendo el pan y el vino rodeado de sus doce apóstoles.

The Saint supper is the last meal that Jesus shared  with his apostles before being crucified, the last supper is one of the most represented biblical representations in the history of art, being the most common scene the representation of Jesus in the center blessing the bread and wine surrounded by his twelve apostles.

This copperplate engraving corresponds to the frontispiece or engraved cover of an edition of the "Breviarium Monasticum" (Monastic Breviary), published in Paris by the bookseller and printer Louis Billaine (Ludovicum Billaine).

Louis Billane estuvo activo en París en la segunda mitad del siglo XVII. Existe constancia en repertorios bibliográficos (como el USTC, nº 6106976) de una edición de este breviario específico a su nombre impresa en 1662, destinada al uso de la Congregación de San Mauro de la Orden de San Benito (Ad usum congregationis S. Mauri).

Louis Billane was active in Paris in the second half of the 17th century. There is evidence in bibliographical repertories (such as the USTC, no. 6106976) of an edition of this specific breviary in his name printed in 1662, intended for the use of the Congregation of Saint Maurus of the Order of Saint Benedict (Ad usum congregationis S. Mauri).

Se trata de un grabado al burin (talla dulce), posiblemente iniciado al aguafuerte para las líneas de contorno más suaves. Es muy característico de la escuela de grabado parisina del siglo XVII, apreciable en la limpieza y firmeza de las líneas de los ropajes y en el uso sistemático del contra-tallado (líneas cruzadas) para generar los volumenes y las sombras profundas en los pliegues de los hábitos negros y en las densas nubes del rompimiento.

This is a burin engraving (intaglio engraving), possibly begun as an etching for the softer contour lines. It is very characteristic of the 17th-century Parisian school of engraving, evident in the clean, firm lines of the drapery and the systematic use of cross-hatching to create volume and deep shadows in the folds of the black robes and in the dense clouds of the scene.
